Your chats stay on your computer

Last updated October 15, 2026

The short version

The ChatShelf extension saves your AI conversations in your browser's local storage on your own device. We don't have servers that receive, store or read your conversations. We don't sell data, show ads, or use your chats to train anything.

What the extension stores, and where

When you use ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok or Perplexity in your browser, the extension reads the conversation on the page and saves its title, messages, timestamps and the page address into your browser's IndexedDB storage on your device. Your folders, stars, tags and settings are stored the same way. This data never leaves your device unless you choose to export it.

Uninstalling the extension deletes this data. You can also delete any chat, or everything, from the extension's settings at any time.

What the extension sends over the network

Permissions the extension asks for

The website

chatshelf.app uses privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics) to count page views. Preferences like your theme and tip streak are saved in your browser's local storage and are never sent to us.

Payments

Pro purchases are processed by Stripe under its own privacy policy. Stripe shares your email address and purchase status with us so we can issue and check your license; we never see or store your card details.

Children

ChatShelf is not directed to children under 13.
